Green tomatoes

Well my tomato plants copped a beating over summer with the hot temps, the flowers just burned off, but later when the weather was a little better the flowers came again and lots of tomatoes grew. Sadly now the cooler weather has come and the tomatoes have stayed green. But not to worry!!  Out came the recipe book and I have made up a brew of green tomato curried pickles. Yum!
Just the thing with cheese and biscuits!
Happy days!

A finish and a nearly finished!

It is such a good feeling to get things finished or in this case nearly finished!! The wall hanging needs a hanging sleeve on the back, hopefully that will be done tonight.
This wall hanging is a panel and backing with free motion quilting on it to create some depth - it is heading off to NZ soon for a certain friends birthday,

also going with it is a knitting bag, this friend loves old style caravans, so what better than a knitting bag with caravans to put her in relax mode!
Happy sewing!

52 weeks word photo challenge

The word for this week is BALL - and as the Chowchow does not chase a ball, he just looks at you as if to say get it yourself, I had to come up with something else. As chance would have it I attended an origami class this afternoon and we made a ball - well a kind of ball!! I had a great time, took me a while to master it, but am really happy with the results. So here it is, BALL.
Have a great day.

Weekend wanderings

Yesterday I went off to Eltham, picked up a  friend and we spent the rest of the day at Doreen scrapbooking - had a lovely afternoon of eating, chatting, laughing and a little scrapping!!! Today I had a lovely walk from Eltham to Research, was a beautiful morning. The this afternoon I found my way to St. Kilda, only one or two sudden lane changes when I realised I needed to be over there, not where I was! Lol! I went to a beginners origami class with the Japanese teacher from school. Was a great afternoon with a bunch of very friendly people.
Happy paper folders!! We have finished!

Our finished 'balls' plus Noriko's examples.

Our beautiful teacher, Noriko.
All in all a very creative weekend!

ANZAC Day March

I went into the city today to watch the march along St Kilda Road, I was just opposite the Arts Centre so had a great view. I found it very emotional watching some of the old diggers determined to march even though they were frail and bent....I felt so proud of them.
Here we go!

Love the bagpipes! Must be my Scottish blood!!

This vehicle was stopped in front of me for a while, when they had to start up again the driver couldn't get the truck in to gear, the passengers thought that was hilarious! They eventually got going to a big cheer from the crowd!

Some great cars here today!

Love the Light Horse!
Lest we Forget!

And a quick call into Spotlight on the way home for some fabric for the Aussie Hero Quilts.

12 inch Mini Swap

This is the Easter mini I made for the swap organised by Cheryll, it is a little late but I forgot to take a photo and have just asked for and received one from my swap partner who is not writing on her blog at the moment.
One bunny hanging out for Easter!
Happy Sewing!

A finish and a work in progress

Today I have finished another sheep - this one is a little less armadillo, or was that aardvark, looking!!
he  has joined the not quilt right sheep in the craft room
think I might make another one, one day...they are so lovely and cuddly!
Now I am off to attempt another block in the Underground Railroad book, this one has lots of flying geese...mmmmm.....could be a challenge!! I tried this last week and got very hot under the collar when I couldn't figure out the instructions. I left it and went back the next morning, and actually read the pattern again, and discovered I hadn't cut enough fabric!! Duh!! No wonder it didn't work!! Maybe I can get it right this time!!

Happy sewing!

10 fat quarter quilt

Way way back, many years ago......but not that far if you are singing the same song as me!!! Was happily side tracked then!! Back in 2009 I went to a class to learn how to make a 10 fat quarter quilt. Mine was finished and has gone to a happy home. A little while later some friends came over and we had a fat quarter quilt making day. One friend, made her fat quarters, which was great as she is not a sewer, but they languished in a bag. We usually exchange a little gift for Christmas, so for this one just gone I offered to put the quilt together instead of buying a present. So that is what I have been doing this afternoon.

Quite pleased with how it has turned out..next stop the quilters!! Yay!!
Happy sewing.

52 weeks word photo challenge

The word for this week was POINT. After mulling over some different ideas I saw this leaf in the park this morning and thought it had a lovely point on the end of the leaf, so this is my effort for POINT.
You can see the other POINT photos over at Alsha's Space
Have a happy day.

Books and films

I have been watching some DVD's this weekend, two are based on books I have read and loved. I ended up a blubbering mess at the end of both movies but I love how they brought the books alive for me.
Off to renew the supply of tissues and continue with the knitting that wasn't done during the movie!!
Off to find a happy mood!

Another beautiful day today, we started with a walk in the park,
calm and still,

love the oak trees here,

I was sitting sewing and looking out the door, thinking how lucky I am to  have this view and to be able to sit here and sew and then a heap of trucks turned up in the court and they proceeded to re-seal the road, so I had to shut the door as the smell of tar was over whelming.

I finished three laundry bags this morning for Aussie Hero Quilts (and laundry bags)

this one makes me feel happy,

love this fabric,

an Aussie one!!
Happy sewing!!

Busy day

I love days like today, when the sun is shining and it isn't too hot and I get the urge to do stuff in the garden, these photos are out of order because I forgot to take a garden photo this morning!! Then I came in and did some sewing - working on the next Crazy Quilt block, this one is going to be very Bollywood!!

I learned how to use the zip foot!! Very useful for sewing beaded strips on!

I had trouble with this bendy (technical word for it!!Lol!!) stuff that Tracee kindly gave me, it bends beautifully but when you start to sew the machine straightens it up!! I won in the end, even managed to cope with the invisible thread today!

Next I moved on to a laundry bag for Aussie hero Quilts (and laundry bags) - this  is going to be an Aussie one!

The supervisor was round and about today, then he went and rested on the couch - I think he got tired of me moving from the sewing room to the kitchen table to cut and back again..he usually follows, but got fed up with me to day I think!!

This rose bush got the chop today, two used birds nests fell out, I hope the bird mothers don't come back to use them again, they were pretty tired looking! (The nests not the mothers!!) This rose grew up on to the roof so had to be pulled back. No doubt it will grow back again, might have to tie it up or keep it trimmed. (That was the plan last time!! Lol!!)

The rose has gone and I can get to the garden to weed and mulch it, looks heaps better!

Two more laundry bags ready to have their labels sewn on,

machine sewing finished, now for the hand sewing!

and this is secret sewing I have been doing on other days, this is for a swap so can't show too much just yet!!
Hope you had a lovely day!
Happy sewing!

Sit and Sew

Today we had a sit and sew session at the Patch and Quilt shop in Gisborne - sadly not everyone could come due to sick grand children and mothers with broken ankles and work! But we had a good gathering and everyone enjoyed themselves, things were a little quiet due to the absence of Shez!!  Tee Hee I can say that cos she isn't here to wop me over the head for being cheeky!!! Lol!!
Serious work being done by Chris and Donna

Tania and Chris

Anette

Marina (Gisborne) and Marina (from the outer suburbs) - well part of her!!

Tracee was working on this block

Marg was stitching...and shopping, Lol!!

This is Chris's beautiful work,

Donna is attaching Canada to her fabric!! lol!

And this is lunch!! How is this!!! No shortage of food here!!

And Marina made the drive up from the city, or the outer suburbs as she said!!

And explored the blue fabrics she had been thinking about since her last visit in Feb.

AND Marina made her baked ricotta cheesecake for us and it was amazing!!!! There is a link to the recipe on Marina's blog! It was requested by Tracee but enjoyed by us all!

This is what Marina (from the outer suburbs)  is working on...love these sayings!

And over on the noisy table - (yes Shez we had one!!!) these two laughed over something until they cried - I am still waiting for them to share!!

When we tried to take a group photo - the old set up the camera on a shelf and run to get in to the photo trick, guess who wasn't paying attention???? Yes Marina and Tracee decided to have a fabric conversation instead, luckily Tania, Marina (Gisborne one) Anette, Marg, Donna, Chris and myself were paying attention!!

But once I had spoken to them and squashed them at the other end of the photo we got a great shot!! They are cheeky girls!! Lol!!

Here are the die hards, the last to leave....Sue, Tania, Marina, Marg and Tracee. Thank you to Marina for driving up to join us, we appreciated the effort and loved your company! Looking forward to when we meet again behind the orange door!!
Happy sewing!
