Left home....

...today to get away from the noise!!! After lunch today we had two builders, a plumber and two electricians all working in a small space, the radio was LOUD, the equipment was LOUD and they were shouting at each other and that was LOUD...so the supervisor and I went to the post office and then for a walk on the beach to get some calm back in our day.
This was the noise centre, but the lights and switches are now in, the plumbing is done, shower base is in, frame for new wall in, bulkhead in......cannot complain, lots has happened today....

..have been doing a little quilting...

..the supervisor is resting, he has had a busy day...many tradies to bark at!!
Happy sewing.

Sleepy Sunday

No rushing out of be before the tradies arrived this morning.....was nice to have a cuppa in bed and a read...tomorrow will be a different story...but will worry about that when it comes!!! Today has turned in to a wonderful day...
late this morning I was sandwiching out on the back deck.....trying hard not to be  distracted.....
..once that was done I had a little lunch and then went for a bike ride....

saw this pelican at the boat launching ramp....one of many hoping for a feed from the fishermen when they returned from fishing....

..looking back along the beach from just past the camping ground.
Off to quilt a quilt now!
Happy sewing.

Busy, busy

Today has been a busy sewing day for me.....have been working on both the Aussie Hero quilt and the one going to the flood victims....while the builder has been here taking out the floor for the new ensuite..he dropped his hammer on the plaster he had uncovered and we heard glass break downstairs.....the light shade in the toilet had fallen off and smashed  on the floor!! Ah well these things happen!!
Not a good photo there....have now done the binding so is ready for hand sewing...

Aussie hero quilt all ready for a good iron...needs to be measured to make sure it's the right length and then it is ready for sandwiching. Off to read my book now
Happy sewing.

Oh well...

I went off with high expectations this morning.....cabinet makers here, plumber here, tiler on the way.....all good.....cam home to find the plumber had done his thing.....the cabinet makers had pulled off two plaster walls.....NO TILER turned up!!!! Another one is coming for a LOOK on Saturday....I was crushed!! I should know better than getting my hopes up......so now I am feeling sad!! Oh well, I did have a lovely day out and got a fantastic surprise in the mail so will focus on that.
So I was driving along the road to Port Arlington this morning and saw this unusual sight....

..mmmmm...not sure if the tide came in too quick or this machine is made for working under water!! Lol!! Anyway when I came home it was gone....maybe something will be in the local paper??

Off to sewing group I went....and Linda showed us this beautiful quilt she has made...I have forgotten the name for the moment.....something Eclipse.......she bought the kit in the US...the circles are hand sewn, the rest is done on the machine.....

of course I LOVE the batiks....isn't it beautifully made...

this is a quilt Jill made for her son....two layer cakes.....has a soft backing and wool wadding....is so cuddly and warm.....she was off home this afternoon to sew on the binding...

..this arrived in the mail today...in a very official envelope from the defence Dept...the lady at the PO was concerned for me....she was quite worried until I showed her what was inside....

..photos of the front and back of the Centenary ANZAC quilt that was made by Aussie Hero volunteers, travelled the Middle East, was signed by some serving military personnel and then presented to the War Memorial in Canberra. I should say I made ONE poppy block.....

an accompanying letter....I am chuffed, what an amazing gesture...letter hand addressed and signed...I know there were a lot of people involved in the making of this...so these letters would have taken some time to get done.....very, very nice.....

and here is my rather little effort for today...too much chatting, walking down to the shops, and generally not sewing was going on!! lol!! I had a wonderful day, that was the main thing.
Happy sewing.

Happy Day

I have been down to the St Leonards community space today for sewing and craft group. Some of the ladies were interested in making a 1600 quilt...so we were all to start today but some ladies went off to the Biggest Morning Tea so two of us started in the morning and one after lunch, one is still to get jelly rolls and another didn't turn up.
starting off on the long first seam...

mmm...pile does not seem to be getting smaller down there....

Linda is behind that machine sewing away....

and at 1.30...(we started at 9.30  and had an hour for lunch)..... she was finished...one happy camper!! Lovely colours here...
and this is my effort....Christmas fabric...very happy with the results...one of the other ladies who had been to the morning tea started after lunch and is making hers with batiks! Very yummy!! We went home at 3pm and at that stage she had 2 more seams to do...have since phoned her and she is finished and very happy!! So a happy day all round!!
Happy sewing.

Up and down.....up and down...

Today I have been gathering boxes of kitchen things from downstairs and bringing them up, and then deciding where they go in the new kitchen..I have moved the cups three times...but can't move them again as the other places they were are now full!! I also had line dancing class this morning so feel like I have done loads of exercise!! We are still waiting on the tiler...new eta is 8am Thursday..we shall see....we need the tiles done in the kitchen and bathroom, then the flooring can go down...not easy for the builder coordinating the different tradies, especially when they ring him at 6am on the day they are due to work saying they can't come!! Anyway lots should be happening this Thursday and Friday.
I decided I needed to sit and sew for a while this afternoon...so have been playing with the photos for the Aussie hero quilt
joined these guys together...

..then these, added a bit, cut off a bit....

then these...

oops...calculations out a bit here...more trimming required....

.....ta dah!!!!  All together.....

...and then some borders...next thing to do is add some white letters....maybe tomorrow....

the I joined the chevrons together...first two rows beautiful.....second two rows I had one back to front.....bugger!!!! Off to do some unsewing now!!! Or maybe I put the photos in between and pretend that is the pattern???? Lol!!
Happy sewing.
