Bellarine Quilters sewing day

Today  is the third Thursday of the month and that means sewing day at Port Arlington. For an extra treat today I collected Shez from her sisters place in Port and along we went. We had a wonderful day, chatting, sewing looking at some of the other ladies creations
look who was busy sewing!!!!

This quilt was made from a little boys favourite T-shirts, sadly he was killed last year and this is a memory quilt for his Dad to go on the end of his bed. The backing and binding are in Fitzroy colours, a favourite of all the family. Isn't it a lovley idea! Didn't take any other photos, too busy chatting!!! Might get to pinch one from Shez's blog once she does a post.
Happy sewing.

The vies from where I had lunch.....looking back along the Barwon River to the bridge....

I walked up around thee headland...love it up here hearing the surf pounding in.....

nice little rock pool down there to paddle in!! Lol!!

my hexie quilt is slowly coming along.....been working on the sides to try and even it up....today I am linking up with Anthea over at hibiscus stitches for her EPP linky. There are some amazing projects happening with EPP around the place, you can see some of them over there.

Out and about

Today I have been out helping with a community planting...there has been a lot of work going on down near the beach, some plants going out and others going in,
we planted a larger area than this but in this area we were staking and removing the plastic pots that had been used to mark the previous plantings...

the local CFA came and watered the plants in....
down in the back under the tea tree plants we were shown some orchids...Greenhoods,  I think they are called,  there are several patches of them...they are so delicate...will have to keep an eye on them and see how they change.

I made these little guys last night ...they are so cute!!

Sunny day

Today I sewed some fabric together for the backing on the Charm Square Sampler Quilt, hasn't it been a beautiful sunny day??
It was very bright in the sewing room this morning....

the supervisor found the only spare bit of floor space....

had to wear my sunnies to cope with the glare!! Lol!! Still lots of sorting and tidying up needs to be done! The backing is sorted, the quilt top ironed and tidied and it is flying off to the lovely Leeanne at quiltmekiwi in New Zealand!! I am sure she will do an amazing quilting job...just hope the quilt top is ok to quilt!!
This afternoon I went out on the bike (yes sometimes I forget my age!!) and went in search of caches..
It was a beautiful afternoon, calm no wind, quiet road....

easy riding, not too many up parts!! Not keen on the up!!

There are caches about every 200m along this road, don't know I would be happy doing this in the summer as I would be  frightened of snakes....have been looking under dead trees and in tree stumps....only some spiders this time of the year...

..time to head home I think....have had a great afternoon, legs are a bit sore but I am happy!
Hope you have had a lovely day!
Happy sewing.

Busy days.

Yesterday I went to visit at the Seachange Quilters, they are over in Barwon Heads and had a lovely time stitching away with a friendly group of ladies, on the way home I stopped to attempt some geocaching at Point Lonsdale.....
.....didn't take a photo minus toyvoyager but here is Kalea she is from Germany....at the look out...

here is Chalon, also from Germany out at the end of the pier...there is supposed to be a cache here but we couldn't find it...Chalon wasn't much help!! Lol!! Was getting very windy while we were here...

...and at the light house..there is a cache near here too but I couldn't find that either!!!But I did eventually find the one back at the look out where we first started!! Phew!!
Today I have been to the sewing group at St Leonards.....

here are two cushions Linda has made as birthday presents...

this one matches a quilt....

this amazing quilt (or part of) was having it's binding done, made by Gill.....

and Mary was working on these blocks to use her stash of Japanese fabrics.....some beautiful fabrics here. She has made 18 blocks so far.
Back home now, have vacuumed and helped spread pebbles on the garden along the drive way...off to do some sewing now.
happy sewing.

A finish...

..this afternoon I managed to finish the flimsy of the Charm Square Sampler Quilt!! Woo Hoo!!
I am so very happy with it....and super happy I managed to get the blocks all the size they were supposed to be!! Bonus!!! Now to decide on the backing and the big question....do I attempt to quilt it???
....later this afternoon after a few domestics...best not to leave the washing out on the line another day I thought...I completely forgot it last night and it was frosted this morning...lucky we had a beautiful sunny day!!....anyway I got to make another block for Sylvia's Bridal Sampler
this one is the Friendship Star...I think we made one of these for the Underground Railroad Sampler, no I have just checked and we didn't, we did do some of the triangle blocks the same way though, anyway enough of me waffling, I have also started another block
Grace's Friendship....it needs sewing down and trimming....I found it already traced when I opened the book, so must have planned to make it for something else and then changed my mind! Love a bonus!!
the supervisor enjoyed his walk this morning...I was laging behind a little!!
Well had better go and start dinner
Happy sewing.
