Happy day

Yesterday I caught the train into the city and met up with wonderful friends and finally got to meet Fiona in person!! I met Fiona and Shez at Southern Cross, we caught a tram, after some stumbling and coffee spilling ( no names will be mentioned!! Lol!!)and met the other ladies at Flinders Street Station.
we met up with Christine and then Mel

then Marina arrived.

we had a look around Southbank...Christmas is coming!!!Then made our way to PJ O'Briens for lunch
Great food and wonderful company!! And a very obliging waiter who took many photos!!

Cheers!!

Marina sampled the Guinness....

and sported a Guinness mustache for Movember!!

Christine and I wandered across the bridge heading back to the city...and we suddenly realised we  had lost the others....then they appeared...

slowly, slowly they caught up with us....obviously serious discussions were under way that made walking impossible!!

Shez decided to decorate herself with the toyvoyagers.....so they could get a better view of the city she said!! Lol!!
Our final port of call was Luccello's...who can walk past there and not call in???
Is very  hard to leave this shop without some goodies....
a nice little collection here that jumped in to my bag!!!
this little reindeer decoration just had to come home with me...

and look at these lovely Batik fat quarters and stitched decoration.....a beautiful gift from Shez.
Thank you to all, ShezChristineMarinaMel and last but by no means least, the lovely Fiona.....it was a treat to meet you in person Fiona and enjoy a wonderful day out with everyone. Let's do it again soon!!
Happy sewing.

Busy day

today...have done the grocery shopping....been to the library bus......have another supply of who 'dunnits' to listen to while I am sewing.....been for a bike ride around the lagoon four times...I  think the birds were wondering what was going on!!! They kept getting interrupted!!
...sorry that is blurry, but it was a Mum pukeko (swamp hen here in Aus) and her baby...they shot off under the fence when I tried to get a photo
beautiful down the beach this afternoon
then I got on with some serious stuff
and made some little decorations for Christmas.

Geelong

was my destination for yesterday, it was the Geelong Patchwork and Quilting guild meeting...I met the lovely Tracee and Marg at the venue, in fact they arrived before me and were lurking in the kitchen...we had kitchen duty and didn't know what we were supposed to do...we were soon put right by a passing member...then went of to the supermarket to get some cake/biscuits...found the former so presented them for morning tea...I must say they were well received! The speaker this month was Deb Humphries, a West Geelong local who worked in Malawai, helping people with disabilities...she is now fundraising to help  people there get specially made wheelchairs...she has African fabric for sale...there were some beautiful pieces.
one of the quilts for show and tell, made from op shop shirts!! beautiful!!

and this was a splash of colour....

and these were appliques a member had done and then donated to be made into quits for the Children's hospital...the lady who coordinates these quilts made them all into cot quilts..aren't they amazing?
After the meeting we went in to Geelong and to the Wool Museum to have a look at the

Art Quilt Australia 2015 inc. Expressions: The Wool Quilt Prize

this stunning quilt was the winner...the quilting was amazing, you can't see here but there were words incorporated into the quilting...so much to take in!! I took heaps of photos as I do (Lol!) but will not subject you to all of them except maybe this one
a couple of quilt viewers...

this one by Helen Godden

love the moth on this one...

spied on the other side of a quilt...

ready to catch the tram!! lol!!

loved this sheep, such a pretty face and its wool was made from flowers! We had a great day, finished of with a coffee and then we drove home!
Happy sewing.

FNSI results

Last night I made a couple of black with orange centred hexies to go on the hexie quilt and also added in some black hexies to fill in some gaps...most I have sewed on one side so today when I go to the Geelong guild meeting I can just sit and chat and sew!!

..feel like I am slowly getting this row of hexies added!! Over at Wendy's she has been our lovely host, and you can see what wonderful things other people have been creating.
Happy sewing.

Happy mail

Yes today was happy mail day...earlier this year I joined a swap for a Christmas decoration organised by the lovely Maria, sadly my partner went AWOL and couldn't be found so the wonderful Shez stepped in and today I received my swap from her....
her beautiful elf decoration beautifully stitched...

and beautiful fabric on the back!
You are a treasure Shez....never letting anyone feel let down!! Thank you this is very special to me.
I have been sewing today and another little cushion has joined the family...
the last of the blue fabric...tonight by the way is FNSI, so if you feel like  a virtual sew a long with like minded people you can join up over at Wendy's...hope to see you there
off now to organise the white chocolate to munch on and to give the hexies some attention!!
Happy sewing.

Yesterday

I went along to catch up with the lovely ladies at the Port Arlington quilting group, not many there but some amazing show and tell
Linda's beautiful quilt with pansy flowers

this one was made with scraps...lots of 2 inch squares here...

another scrap 2 inch squares quilt

a sea themed quilt Chris is making...

and the back..

a nine patch that has been cut and rearranged

and this one belongs to Judy, the ladies were explaining to us newbies how to make the blocks for these quilts...  in the afternoon I went into Geelong and did a little Christmas shopping, then went to see
what a great film, I laughed and cried....as did others in the audience!!!
Back home I made another of these
my collection is growing and I think I have the pattern under control now, although it never pays to be over confident!!
